We focused on emotions happiness, sadness, fear, and tenderness because they cover the four quadrants of the valence–arousal–circumplex, are included in categorical models frequently used to describe music-induced emotions in the literature (Zentner et al. 2008; Eerola and Vuoskoski 2010), and are rated consistently across listeners (Juslin 2013).
